Welcome to the online store of Yamatoku Vintage Kimono! Kimono was originally developed from the ancient Chinese robe. At the beginning of the Heian period, (794-1192) it had transformed into Kimono we know today. In the Edo period, (1603-1867) the textile industry was prominently advanced, which led the creation of various kinds of Kimono. However the situation completely changed at the dawn of Meiji period, ( 1868-1912). Its government hammered out "Westernization Policy", which resulted in people's leaving from traditional Japanese kimono in their daily lives. Even so, the elaborate design and sumptuous silk material produced by the first-class cocoons still grasped the hearts and minds of people. Actually beyond time and space, sense of beauty residing in Kimono has been cherished not only in Japan but also all over the world.
