Yuzen
Among countless dyeing techniques that became popular and have established their own styles, I can say with confidence that there is no dyeing technique that can replace Japanese Yuzen Dyeing.
From flowers to little animals such as birds, Yuzen Dyeing covers a wide range of motif.
There are two cities that are famous for its specific Yuzen technique. One is Kyoto and the other is Kanazawa.
Kyoto used to be the capital of Japan so Yuzen Dyeing developed in Kyoto coveys refined and elegant manner. Therefore, it can be called a nobility-based art form.
On the other hand, Kanazawa has its origin in Samurai castle town. The fusion of bountiful nature and Samuraism has made this chic and subtle dyeing art possible, which is known as "Kaga-Yuzen".

Yuzen
This Iro-Tomesode is one of the masterpieces of Yuusui Toku, the leading Yuzen artist.
There is almost no one who is better at painting portraits in Yuzen technique.
It is said that simply one person he paints worth more than $10000. One priest surrounded by kids playing together.
It's a pity that there are few places where you can see such a peaceful scene today.

Kaga-Yuzen

This Tomesode is done with Kyo-Yuzen. Iseo Tarumoto's work, an artist unsurpassed among contemporary artists.
Kyo-Yuzen often pictures characters in literary works such as "Genji-Tale" that you can review in "Topics Review".
I wish you could have a look on this Yuzen Art and knew that brush work can often transcend photo copies to convey what cannot be seen as well as what you see.
