Japanese dressmaking equipment for Kimono


  This time I introduce Japanese dressmaking equipment for Kimono. (Photo no.1)

  Hari : It is the most important tool of all the Japanese dressmaking equipment. (Photo no.2)

  Yubinuki : Finger shield. Protects the finger underneath the quilt or any other handwork. Enables stitches to be made painlessly and assists the needle back up through the quilt. (Photo no.3 and 4)

  Itokiribasami : It is arts and crafts scissors. (Photo no.5)

  Tachibasami : It is tailoring shears. (Photo no.6)

  Monosashi : Measuring rod. The shorter one is called Issyakuzashi. The longer one is called Nisyakuzashi. Syaku is unit of length. (1Syaku = 0.3030303M = 11.9303269inches) (Photo no.7)

  Marumi : It is used to make the sleeves round. (Photo no.8 and 9)

  Kote : It gets really hot. It is used to iron out the creases and to put creases. (Photo no.10 and 11)

  Kukedai : It is helpful equipment. It is used under a cushion, held by knees. (Photo no.12 and 14)

  Kakehari : It is used when seawing. Pinch the edge of the textile to open up. (Photo no.13 and 14)

  Bunchin : Paper weight. It is used to steady the textile. After Kote, Pressing it to make creases. (Photo no.15)
