Japanese Cultural Topic No.42
"Nara no Miyako" Historic town Nara

Recently I went to Nara city for sightseeing.

I visited some of the most famous national important cultural properties such as Byodo-in Temple (Byodo-in Hoo-do), Todai Temple (Todai-ji), and Horyu Temple (Horyu-ji). It is visited by so many tourists annually.

Byodo-in Temple is designed on the Japanese coin. (Photo no.1,2,3,4,5)

Uji city in Nara prefecture is famous for green powdered tea called Matcha in Japanese. Matcha has been used for a long time for tea ceremony with Japanese cake called Wagashi.

Todai temple is registered on the World Heritage List. The hall that housed a great image of Buddha is famous as the biggest wooden building of all the world. It is 14.98m high. (Photo no.7,8,9,10,11)

There are many Japanese deers in the Nara Park. You can hand-feed and watch deers closely.

Japan is endowed with nature and historical heritages. So we have great opportunity to rediscover good points of Japan. In the tide of modernization, we have to maintain those places carefully.
