| Grand Drape "Kaga-Mizuhiki-Zaiku"
Japan has an interesting custum. When giving gift, it is wrapped in paper for showing thanks or respect. Noshi is also attached. This custum is called Mizuhiki. Early Edo period, it has been developed as the decoration of the high-class people's gifts.
"Mizuhiki" is derived from soaking hemp in water and then pulling off layers to make cords. In Kanzawa city, it was made by Samurai as private occupation. And it became elaborate.
After Meiji period started, the custom of men and women wearing their hair with a topknot became faded and mizuhiki were no longer used for tying topknots. However, Mizuhiki are now tied to presents as decorations and they have become even more fantastic.
