| Gou-tenjou(Compartment ceiling, Lacunar) is made of latticework frame and paneling.
It's used for most prestigious room in Muromachi-period(1336-1573).
In Edo-period(1603-1867), painting is added on the Gou-tenjou of shrines and temples.
Gou-tenjou-mon for kimono is came from such a painted ceiling - check filled with various flowers, birds, painted dishes motif and so on.
This design itself has existed far back since 7th century in Japan.
Nowadays it's mainly used for the formal kimono like tomesode, furisode,
maru-obi and fukuro-obi.
